Take Advantage Of Your Midnight Snack And Use It To Induce Sleep

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night to a hungry stomach? Or just find it difficult to sleep due to hunger? Have you thought of taking midnight snack but didn’t out of fear of what it might do to you? Well, I’ve got good news. Today I would let you in on some things that could actually help you induce sleep while satisfying your late night hunger/craving.


Who would have thought that this delicious bird could be a good fix for a midnight snack? Most people use this bird for only ceremonial meals but they don’t know it’s a blessing in disguise. Turkey actually contains tryptophan, an amino acid which is used by the body to produce serotonin. Serotonin, amongst its other functions, assists to regulate the body’s sleep cycle. So if you desperately need a snack at midnight, try a little turkey.



These sweet fruits that would put a smile on your face could also send you to the dream land. They are known to be used in curing insomnia in adults. How? Well, these little ones are a natural source of melatonin which is a hormone that regulates the sleep cycle of the body. Hence, it’s a perfect midnight snack. So next time you wake up hungry, fix it with a bowl of cherries.



In as much as avocado is an amazing fruit and tastes great when used as bread spread, it is also a life saver when it comes to what to eat at night. Since it aids in the production of serotonin, try avocado with bread, and say goodnight.

Leafy Vegetables

These don’t just stop at moving your bowels and supplying vitamins. It also goes as far as sending you to bed smoothly. They contain magnesium which helps to calm the nerves and induce sleep. They go well with whole grain products (rice, pasta, etc.). Since they also contain tryptophan, well, your midnight snack is served.

Whole Grains

These are used in a lot of products and luckily, can be found everywhere. From bread, crackers and pasta to rice and many more. They aid in the production of serotonin and are usually found lurking around your neighborhood stores. They could go well with turkey, avocado and leafy vegetables.

Legumes are known to contain magnesium which you already know calms the nerves and induces sleep. Once your nerves are calm, falling asleep would be a piece of cake. Try a glass of soy milk and whole grain crackers as midnight snack. The combination would do the trick.


Almost everybody loves bananas. Of all the nutrients it has, it contains vitamin B6 which also aids in the production of serotonin. Don’t fill like eating it, try making banana milk shake out of it and you’ll love it.
