Mourinho says title race is over
Jose Mourinho has hinted that though winning the Premier League is beyond Manchester United, a second place finish is achievable for the EFL winners.
With Chelsea 15 points clear of sixth-place United, Mourinho concedes that the title is already out of reach.
But the gap between United and second-placed Tottenham is five points, a deficit the Portuguese feels can be overturned as they prepare to face Bournemouth on Saturday.
“The second position is very difficult but it’s very possible,” said Mourinho.
“First is impossible. Second is possible and we have to fight for it.
United are competing on three fronts at this stage of the season and Mourinho believes that they could still add to their trophy cabinet.
“The Europa League is very difficult, but it’s a target for us and, if we beat Rostov, we find ourselves in the quarter-final.
“Then we have to think really seriously about the Europa League because, in this moment, we are still in the last 16.
“Quarter-final, you smell the final and then, in a certain period of the season, I have to analyse my team, the players, the conditions of everyone and, if I have to make choices, I have to make choices.
