Mourinho: Europa League is more important for us

Manchester United gaffer, Jose Mourinho, has hinted at the probability of placing more importance on the Europa League ahead of Monday night’s FA Cup quarterfinal tie against Chelsea.

Mourinho has been critical of the scheduling of fixtures this season, United made to long journey to Rostov in the Europa League on Thursday, face Chelsea on Monday, welcome Rostov on Thursday added to a Premier League tie on Sunday means they have 4 competitive fixtures in just 9 days.

He said: “It comes in the wrong moment for us because the Europa League is a competition that can give us a Champions League spot and the FA Cup isn’t.

“So the Europa League is more important than the FA Cup for us.”

The Portuguese manager also had time to take a swipe at Chelsea boss Conte, who has said he will not tone down his touchline celebrations on Monday despite annoying Mourinho with it last time the two sides met, for having a relatively easy schedule due to a lack of European football.

“I know he said a couple of weeks ago it’s not his fault they’re not in the European competitions, it’s my fault and the players’ fault.

“But the reality is that he got in his hands a situation where they have time to work, time to rest, time to relax, time to disconnect.

“They have time to travel, time to have holidays, time to go to America and enjoy America for a couple of days, they have time for all of these things.
