Robben: ‘Arsenal are a bigger threat this year’
Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has warned of Arsenal’s improvement ahead of the sides round of 16 Champions League tie, he believes that the London team pose a significant threat to any opponent in the UCL.
“I think they have improved again compared to last year and, of course, we have faced them over the last few years and have always won or went through to the next round. But I think this is maybe going to be the most difficult one because of their status at the moment.
“Their level has risen again… They are a threat to everybody who is in the Champions League, they can make it difficult for everyone. We are confident, of course, but it’s going to be a 50/50 one.”
The sides have become familiar foes in the UCL, when Arsenal take to the pitch in the Allianz Arena on Wednesday it will be the fourth time they have done so in the last five years.
For the most part Bayern have had the upper hand progressing at the Gunners expense but Arsenal have had some joy against the Bavarians with two victories from those six ties.
They must now look to raise their game further if they are to break a tradition of crashing out at this stage which stretches back to 2010, with the usual unrest breaking out among the fans already this year a two-legged victory over Bayern Munich might be the tonic to give Wenger breathing room.
