Manchester City thrash Monaco in 8-goal thriller
Manchester City and Monaco played out a thrilling round of 16 encounter at the Etihad Stadium as the home side came from behind to beat Monaco 5-3 in an end-to-end encounter.
City struck first through Raheem Sterling in the 26th minute after some good work from Leroy Sane but it was Monaco who went in at halftime with the lead via a header from Radamel Falcao and a sensational strike from teenaged Kylian Mbappe.
The second half began in much the same fashion as both sides exchanged goals, Aguero pulling City level only for Falcao to score his second of the night. The match then turned on its head when Falcao spurned a chance to put daylight between from 12 yards out.
City seized the opportunity, goals from Aguero, John Stones and Leroy Sane wrapping a brilliant comeback for Guardiola’s charges. 5-3 it finished but with eight goals scored no one is calling the tie yet.
Elsewhere at the Bayer Arena, Atletico Madrid secured an away victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniards went in to the break at two nil courtesy goals from Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann. They never looked like loosening their grip on the game and though the Germans gave a credible account in the second half it finished 4-2.
