Ighalo moves to China; becomes the most expensive Nigerian player
- Ighalo has joined Changchun Yatai
- The £20m fee paid makes Ighalo the most expensive Nigerian footballer
Nigerian international Odion Ighalo, age 27, has completed a move to Changchun Yatai on a four-year contract.
Ighalo ended a productive two-and-a-half seasons with Watford in which he scored 39 goals for in a 100 appearances for the Hornets leading them to promotion from the Championship in his first season.
He quickly acclimatised to life in the English Premier League hitting 17 goals as Watford retained their top-flight status. A change in fortunes followed with the striker experiencing a goal drought for much of the current season and as a result losing his spot in the first team.
A move to China will doubtless provide Ighalo with a new lease on life as he attempts to justify the tag of ‘most expensive Nigerian player’.
