Seven Amazing Benefits Of Grapes And Why You Should Eat Them More

Grapes can be eaten fresh as table grapes or they can be used for making wine, jam, juice, jelly, grape seed extract, raisins, vinegar, and grape seed oil. They are packed with nutrients and antioxidants and have high amounts of resveratrol, a heart-friendly phytonutrient.

Grapes have been associated with reducing the risk of the following conditions:

1) Cancer
Grapes contain powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols, which may slow or prevent many types of cancer, including esophageal, lung, mouth, pharynx, endometrial, pancreatic, prostate and colon.

The resveratrol found in red wine famous for heart health is a type of polyphenol found in the skins of red grapes.

2) Heart Disease

The high polyphenol content in grapes may also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) by preventing blood clot and reducing blood pressure via anti-inflammatory mechanisms.

The fiber and potassium in grapes also support heart health. An increase in potassium intake along with a decrease in sodium intake is the most important dietary change that a person can make to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease

High potassium intakes are also associated with a reduced risk of stroke, protection against loss of muscle mass, preservation of bone mineral density and reduction in the formation of kidney stones.

3) Constipation
Eating foods that are high in water content like grapes, watermelon and cantaloupe can help to keep you hydrated and your bowel movements regular. Grapes also contain fiber, which is essential for minimizing constipation. They also relieve chronic constipation by toning up intestinal muscles and the stomach.

4) Diabetes
Recent research suggests that grape skin extract (GSE) exerts a novel inhibitory activity on hyperglycemia and may help in diabetes management. The researchers found that consuming three servings per week of blueberries, grapes, raisins, apples or pears reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by 7%.

5)  Acne
A study published in the journal Dermatology and Therapy claims a compound derived from red grapes and found in red wine – resveratrol – could be an effective treatment for acne, particularly when combined with an already existing medication for the disorder.

6) Migraine

Ripe grape juice is an important home remedy for curing migraines.

It should be drunk early in the morning, without mixing additional water. Ironically, drinking red wine is often considered a cause of migraines, but grape juice and grape seed extract are considered a solution to the problem.

7) Indigestion

Grapes play an important role in dyspepsia. They cure indigestion and irritation in the stomach.

They are also preferred over other digestive aids because they are considered a “light food.”
