La liga giants Barcelona have completed the loan signing of Enyimba forward, Ezekiel Bassey, with the option for a permanent 2-year deal in the summer.
The 20-year-old who can play on the wings or in attack will begin his with the famed Barca ‘La Masia’ academy (Barca B) as they seek promotion from the third tier of Spanish football where they currently hold a two point lead at the top. He becomes the fourth Nigerian player, after Emmanuel Amuneke, Haruna Babangida and Gbenga Okunowo, to pull on the Barca jersey.
Ezekiel is already a full international with Nigeria featuring for the Super Eagles in the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. He was also part of the Nigerian Professional Football League All-star team who played against Malaga, CF Valencia and Atletico Madrid in the Trofeo Ramon de Carranza in August last year.
The Spanish club confirmed the move in an official statement on their website,
“FC Barcelona and Enyimba International Football Club have reached an agreement for the loan of Ezekiel Joseph Bassey until the end of the season,” the statement read.
“Bassey will form part of the B team and included in the deal is the option to sign him on a two-year deal in the summer.”
