4 Things That Happened In Port Harcourt On Valentine’s Day

This is not a cheesy list and I am not anti-valentine but you should probably know what is happening in your environment. Because I am very sure this was applicable in some other cities.

  • The Red and White Clash:

For some reason, girls always forget the memo that it is not necessarily important to wear the white and red code on valentine’s day. Pitakwa city was not left out as the town was painted in all shades of white and red. This is not unusual but every year it makes me laugh. Who am I, however, to tell people what to wear on this special day.

  • Traffic

The traffic in Port Harcourt yesterday was tiresome. I cannot actually attribute it to the Valentine day rush or Vice President Osibanjo’s visit or an imaginary road maintenance work. I know my oversabi Lagos people would want to lament on how horrible Lagos traffic is but please hold it.

  • Harmattan Flash

It is no news that the weather has been dry and hot of recent. Coupled with the black soot menace, it hasn’t been easy for Port Harcourt residents (thank God this is reducing). Yesterday we received harmattan again but without the accompanying dust. Just a dry and hot weather.

The air was hot to a special degree. Those who have cars and always blast on their AC’s may not understand this but the air was hot. I was going home and it felt like the route the driver took was just past that of hell. Whatever that was cannot be explained better than the weather wishing us a happy valentine’s day.

  • Spar Proposal

Valentine’s day without proposal is that one Val’s day. And what better place to do this than at the Port Harcourt mall aka SPAR. There was clearance sales, valentine giveaway and even a couples booth (for games). A friend of mine witnessed three marriage proposals when he was there yesterday, all under two hours. That is just 2 out of 24 hours though. Do the rest of the calculations. Well, valentine’s day is when many people cross over from being a girlfriend or side chick to being a wife and we can shout issa hoosssband ooo!

I hope you all have fun yesterday, even if you spent most of the day in the office. Till November 14th, when we would welcome the creations of Valentine’s day.

And yes, if you noticed anything unusual or spectacular on this day of love let us know in the comment section. Let us remember to show love whenever and wherever we can.
