Australian Open Serves Up Heavyweight Clash Between Roger Federer & Kei Nishikori
Roger Federer rolled back the years with a dominant display at the Rod Laver Arena, easily putting 10th seed Tomas Berdych to the sword in straight sets to resach the fourth round of the Australian open.
The former world number is returning from a 6-month absence due to injury and was seeded 17th coming into the tournament. He ruthlessly dispatched Berdych 6-2 6-4 6-4 in just over an hour and a half.
35-year-old Federer now has a match against 5th seed Kei Nishikori on the cards for Sunday. Nishikori pushed past Slovakian Lacko in straight sets as well and looks to be in good form.
Federer and Nishikori have met 6 times on the ATP World Tour, the Swiss veteran shades the head-to-head battle but Nishikori will feel that the he can take advantage of Federer’s recent lack of game time.
The winner of this clash will likely face World #1 Andy Murray in the quarter final, that is assuming he beats German Mikhail Zverev in his round of 16 clash on Sunday.
