A manhunt for the killers of a Deputy Superintendent of Police who was on election duty in Rivers State, has begun, officials say.
Mohammed Alkali, a DSP with the Mobile Police Unit 48 was killed on Saturday along with some of his colleagues in the violence that characterized the rerun elections to fill vacant legislative seats.
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Army in Port Harcourt, Major General Kasimu Abdulkarim had said that Akali and his orderly were killed by hoodlums at Ujju community near Omoku in Ogba/Edema/Ndoni council area, on Election Day.
It was learnt that the hoodlums escaped with the police patrol vehicle and took some weapons along with them.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni said the special units of the Nigeria Police Force has joined the ongoing investigation with a view to apprehending the hoodlums and bringing them to justice.
Mohammed Alkali was buried in Bosso, Niger State on Monday.
